This month, our vintage Queen, Saskia Ericson sends a report from her native Netherlands on the amazing Dutch illustrator Fiep Westendorp.
"Howdy Anorak friends! You probably already knew that it’s Anorak’s 10th birthday, but did you know this year also marks the 100th anniversary of Fiep Westendorp’s birthday? Born in the Netherlands, Sophia Maria ‘Fiep’ Westendorp (17/12/1916 – 3/2/2004) created literally thousands of illustrations during her 60-year art career and her work is adored by three generations of Dutchies, myself included.
Fiep’s jubilee year is being celebrated all over the Netherlands, right up to December 2017; with workshops, exhibitions, a festival and even a travelling double-decker ‘Fiepbus’!
At Meermanno (a beautiful museum devoted to books) in The Hague, you can check out some of Fiep’s book covers, art, posters and advertising work. Run! This exhibition finishes on Sunday October 23rd! These are some photos I snapped last week.
Gelukkige verjaardag (happy birthday) Fiep! ♥"
